Day after Thanksgiving…
December 9, 2008
The alarm clock went off at 5:30am. I got out of bed, turned it off, then went and checked the current weather conditions and the forecast for the day. Current temp of 33, and 37 degrees for a high, snow showers later in the afternoon, and only a light wind. Time to go! I made it to the water in Scottsville right around 7am. The next hour or so was spent fishing my usual spots…huh…looks like I was just practicing my casting technique. So I jumped back in the car and went to the next hot spot several miles upstream. Nothing. After another hour or so I decided to get in the car and go find new places further upstream than I had ever been. I am so happy I decided to do that! There were numerous new runs and holes in this new place! It looked so good! It didn’t take much time for me to find a run that I really liked the looks of…it was extremely fast in the middle, and quickly died at both sides where a couple of shallow, slower pools had formed. I could see into the water very well, and quickly spotted a nice brown laying just outside the fast part of the run on side closest to me. I started casting my nymph upstream and let it drift through the run, hoping the current would drop it into that pool. Around 15-20 casts later…it did! The brown took the nymph was soon landed. What a beautiful little brown! Right around 12-13 inches, well proportioned, and very vibrant in color! (The picture doesn’t do the fish justice…that camera was awful…I have since then upgraded!) That was my only fish for the day. One strike, one fish! What a great day on the water! It was a nice, calm, relaxing day…I found new places to fish…and I caught a nice little brown! A very successful day all the way around! See you on the water!
